Muscat (de) Beaumes-de-Venise wines are sweet, fortified Muscat based wines from the village of Beaumes-de-Venise, in France's Rhône Valley. They are made entirely from Muscat Blanc à Petit Grains and its Muscat Noir color mutation.
During harvest season, the grapes are picked by hand. Soon after, fermentation is stopped by adding a grape spirit of at least 96 percent alcohol when the wine itself reaches an alcohol level of 5 to 10 percent. This results in a delicate, aromatic, sweet wine with low acid and residual sugar. Aromas and flavors include sweet orange, honey, and rose petals.
